I'll tell you, I'm feeling so blessed right now. I couldn't have asked for a better solution to the questions of the future/worries that I've been having.
Let me tell you how it happened...
There was a girl working as the Accounting clerk in the law firm. We'll call her.. Marge! Okay, so Marge worked as the Accounting Clerk up until she left on maternity leave. When Marge left for her leave, the firm hired... Bertha!.. to work as the Accounting clerk for a term position until the Manager found out whether or not Marge would be coming back from leave.
Shortly after I started working with the firm, Bertha decided to take a different job outside of the firm and so she quit. The timing of Bertha's departure was right around when summer vacations were going to happen. The only other people in the Regina office who knew the Accounting procedures were the Manager and the Senior accounting clerk (She can be Jill).
These two wonderful ladies could have managed the position on their own, except for the fact that they both had two weeks of holidays booked in the same month. So, they recruited me. My manager asked if I would mind learning how to do the General deposit for the Office so that the money would still get processed into the account and bills could be paid. So, I accepted.
I've been doing the deposit since the end of July and, I must say, I'm doing rather well.
Yesterday, my Manager asked to see me in her office. Instantly, as if I were guilty of doing something wrong, I felt like I was going to get in trouble. (I hate when that happens.) She started asking me how I was liking all of the Accounting duties and asked me if I would be willing to get into a term position for that Accounting job for about three months which would be when they found out if Marge was coming back. I said that I would love to take the position, not only because of the pay increase (It definitely sweetened the deal though!) but because I figured that there wouldn't be any other time when I'd get into a position like this without any training or even experience in the field.
After the meeting with my Manager and my lunch break, I had a tele-conference meeting with the Director of Finance in Saskatoon. She told me that she thinks I'm perfect for the job based on all the positive things she's heard about me and because of the good work I had been doing on the deposits! She also mentioned that, coincidentally, as I was having the meeting with my Manager, the Director received an e-mail from Marge saying she would not be returning after her Maternity leave was done. Woohoo!
After I walked out of that second meeting, an e-mail was sent out to everyone I work with sharing the great news! It's all happening so fast but I'm super excited! Starting Sept. 17 I will be an Accounting Clerk!
When work ended that day I walked across the park to where Dale picks me up from work and couldn't wait to share the great news! I loved seeing how excited and happy he was for me! He decided that we needed a celebration and so we went for supper at Tony Roma's!
It couldn't get better timing than this. The second day that Dale is into school, I get this promotion and a pay raise. Sweet. It's like someone knew that we were going to be needing this extra money and was just waiting for the opportune moment. Funny how it always seems to work out that way.
I totally have some thanking to do for this one. It's really humbling to know that I'm looked after, that all of my blessings are ready for me. Who knew that all you really needed was faith and a little bit of trust.
All I can really say is...
Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank-you!
congratulations, you guys!! x
